New Naas MapRunF Orienteering Courses

Pat Healy has been hard at working planning and drawing up some new MapRunF virtual orienteering courses around the Naas urban area, covering many areas of local interest. The courses are short, easy to navigate and can be started at any point along the course, as they follow a loop. Plenty to keep you entertained over the holidays!

If you're new to MapRunF, you find all the details on our DIY Orienteering Page. Don't forget, there's also several existing courses up already on the Curragh and Donadea, and we're also planning some new longer courses on the Curragh.

Curragh Night-O - Feb 29th

This coming Saturday, we are holding the rescheduled Night-O on the Curragh - this was postponed earlier in the month due to one of the storms.

So, for anyone who wants to attend: here's a link on google maps:

Starts will be from from 7:00pm-8:00pm, to account for the lengthening evenings.

Suitable for experienced orienteers, you must be at least 16 years old to compete. There will be two courses:

* Long; 5.2km 18 Controls
* Short; 2.9km 10 Controls

Map Scale is 1:7500, and don't forget to bring a good head torch! Cost is €7 for IOA club members and €8 for guests. SportIdent card hire is €2 for those who need one.

Hope to see you there!

Donadea Come-and-Try-It event - Jan 26th 2020

Our annual beginners event in Donadea Forest Park takes place this coming Sunday 26th January, with starts available from 11am to 1am. We hope to have the entrance barrier raised from 10:00am to 12:30am to facilitate free entry to the park for the event. The toilets in the forest park will also be open for the event.

Whether you are a complete novice, a family, or a seasoned veteran, there is a course to suit. The adventure is suitable for families or beginners. The Medium course is suitable for experienced orienteers and adult beginners and improvers who are can cope with off track forest running/walking. The Long course is suitable for adult improvers and experienced who are good at map reading and compass

Specifically, Eileen has three courses planned as follows:

* Adventure (2.8km)
* Medium (5.3km)
* Long (8km)
We will also have a small maze setup near the start/finish for people to try their skill at micro-scale orienteering.

Entry fees are the usual:

* Child/Student/Unwaged/OAP €5 (€4 for CNOC members)
* Adult €8 (€7 for CNOC members)
* Family €20. (€15 for CNOC members)

If you need to hire an SI card, we also rent them for €2, to be returned at the finish. Lost cards cost €40 to replace!

If you're not a member of a club, and would like to join CNOC on the day, we're offering free membership for the first year (its only €7 a year per adult after that anyways - full rates on cnoc.ie)

If you are planning on bringing a group, it would be useful to contact us ahead of time, so we can ensure we print enough maps, etc.

There will be refreshments after the finish, and in an effort to save on waste plastic, we'd encourage everyone to bring their own cups for refreshments afterwards. We'll also accept plastic map bags back for future re-use.
