Orienteering MtBO Curragh Sat 13 Sep

The 2nd event in the Leinster MtBO series is being organised by CNOC on the Curragh this Saturday 13th September.
Start times 10:00 to 11:00.
Entry fees: Adult €10, Student/Junior/over-65 €7.
SportIdent electronic timing, SI cards will be available to borrow if you don't own one.
There will be 2 courses:
Long: 16.9 km, 20 controls, scale 1:15000, map size A3.
Short: 7.4 km, 10 controls, scale 1:10000, map size A4.
The emphasis will be on route choices and pedalling, controls will in general be on prominent or easily found features.  The Short Course will be somewhat simpler than the Long.
Registration, Start and Finish are all outside the NCO's Mess in the Curragh Camp.
Directions: take exit 12 off the M7 (The Curragh) and follow signposts for the Curragh Camp.  Drive through the Camp to the Centra supermarket (less than 5 mins from the M7) and turn left - orienteering signs from here.
Parking etc will be marked by an orienteering kite.
Note special symbols:
1. Horse gallops - brown/yellow line.  Saturday morning is training time for race-horses, please keep well away as they are very nervous and excitable and easily spooked.
2. Vague grassy paths.  Significant paths are shown with a green/yellow line, as they offer better going.
The good weather has left the Curragh in great condition for cycling, dry and hard, so times should be fast.

Hollywood Orienteering and Barbecue

The final CNOC summer evening orienteering event is in Hollywood village in Co. Wicklow next Tuesday 17th June.
Directions: from the N81 10km south of Blessington (at the Emo garage) turn East on the R756 toweards Wicklow Gap.  About 1/2 km up this road turn left, parking and Registration are just here outside Tutty's pub.  Road signage from the N81 junction.
Orienteering start times 18:00 to 19:30.  Courses close at 20:30.
Don has planned two courses:
Adventure - 3 km fairly easy course with some sections in the forest.  There'll be a 2.5 km version of this course suitable for buggies.
Score - get as many controls as possible in 50 minutes.  Score 10 points per control, penalty 10 points per minute or part minute over 50 mins.  No bonus for getting to all the controls but it should be possible...

We will have our usual near-midsummer barbeque at Tutty's pub after the orienteering, and the prize-giving for the Summer Evening League.  The league table is at http://tinyurl.com/qc9tz4g.

You can just arrive and register on the evening, but it makes things much easier for the organisers if you pre-register to enter HERE.  Pre-registration closes as midday on Tuesday.
